MEMORY FOODS THAT HELP SAVE AND IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY
Before going into the list of foods that will help to retain and even improve your memory and help save you from dementia and alzheimers, the following advice will improve memory, even if you or your patient are already suffering from dementia and alzheimers. I am suffering from dementia and thus there is a high chance that alzheimers is the cause. Dementia is just the symptom.
My condition was I am sure caused by many years of a high fat diet, excessive alcohol and smoking cigars. After a lifetime of good health three years ago I started falling apart. The first problem was blocked arteries and a minor operation carried out by the brilliant surgeon Andrew Murray solved that problem.
However I soon began to realize that my poor memory was getting much worse. Eventually a visit to my doctor confirmed one of our worst fears-dementia. Being determined to fight the condition I began extensive research of the problem on the net.The first shock was to discover that there is currently no cure for either dementia or alzheimers. The second was that dementia is actually a symptom of a much more serious condition. In 80% of patients it is alzheimers.
By this time I had already stopped drinking alcohol and smoking. I increased my EXERCISE by walking more each day and kept up swimming when the weather permitted. i ALSO INCREASED MY BRAIN EXERCISE BY READING MORE. I also read that sufficient SLEEP was essential and of course a HEALTHY DIET. The first thing in the healthy diet is actually to make sure that one drinks enough WATER. Quite apart from my improved diet I am convinced that WATER has been the key to my arresting both my memory and cognitive abilities. I am a writer and with possible mental deterioration this might prove difficult in the future, however at present my output has increased in both amount and I think in quality.[All writers sometimes question their ability].I am utterly convinced about the BENEFITS OF WATER, and when I drink I visualize my ailments washing out of my body.
Apart from the 'memory foods' I think that OMEGA 3 fatty acids tablets that my doctor prescribed have also helped.
The list of 'good foods' is very exhaustive so I will start by listing those that are considered not only healthy but also to POSITIVELY IMPROVE MEMORY. These are SPINACH, STRAWBERRIES, BLUEBERRIES AND MACADEMIA NUTS.
The following list is very exhaustive so there is plenty of choice in a memory friendly diet.Good quality food supports optimal brain function and boosts memory by providing essential nutrients. Also, antioxident rich foods help improve the surge of oxygen through the brain as well as the body. The complete list is; ALFALFA SPROUTS ,BEETS, RED BELL PEPPERS, ONIONS, SWEET POTATOES, RASPBERRIES, PLUMS, CABBAGE, LETTUCE, SPINACH, KIWI FRUITS, AVOCADOS, ORANGES, RED GRAPES,CHERRIES, RED APPLES, KALE, BRUSSEL SPROUTS, RED TOMATOES, BLUEBERRIES, BLACKBERRIES, CRANBERRIES, STRAWBERRIES, BROCCOLI, GREEN TEA, ROIBOS TEA, LIVER, SALMON,SARDINES,HALIBUT, HERRING, TUNA, MACKEREL NUTS AND SEEDS.
It is noticeable that the list includes some fish but no meat apart from liver. This does not mean that a healthy diet cannot include a modest amount of meat, it just means that those things don't help memory. In my own case liver which is included in the 'Memory Foods'is not permitted because of my modest heart condition. Also, some people are allergic to nuts and other things, so common sense must be exercised!
My own health is now better than ten years ago and my memory certainly getting no worse and in fact I think it has marginally improved.
The weather here in Paarl is still fabulous with lots of sunshine and a modest breeze today. I think that I will swim with my Jack Russell 'Boysie" today as it will be warm enough.
Keep taking the tablets.
