DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMERS ---- HUMOUR IS MEDICATION
A smile is the first step to laughter and has been proved to be a positive medicine. Patients should be treated to jokes and humour. A happy emotional state caused by humour, will benefit the patient enormously and slow down the advance of dementia and alzheimers. In addition it will help the caregiver to retain a sense of proportion and very possibly help to reduce the chance of eventual dementia in the caregiver.
Rather like positive thinking, humour helps to heal, so keep smiling!
Don't take it personally if your patient becomes a 'handful`. Try and move on emotionally and remember that the person inside is still the same, they just act differently because of the disease.
No change in my own dementia and life goes on very happily. The animals are all well, but swimming won't be for much longer. Boysie went in the pool yesterday, but afterwards he was shivering badly. It is cooler today and rain forecast for tomorrow.
Keep taking the tablets.
