Dementia & struggle

The great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche  said 'That which does not kill you makes you strong.'
There can be no doubt that challenges help those with dementia. Such things as running a marathon, or competing in a swimming competition obviously require a lot of effort and this is good for us. Anything that is a struggle helps to keep our 'enemy' at bay and thus delay the progress of dementia into Alzheimer's or one of the other diseases.
Of course, it doesn't have to be a physical challenge, crosswords, puzzles, word games, or even reading and writing will exercise the mind. The more difficult a thing is to remember, the more stimulation to the brain.
Personally, I often have a problem when writing to remember a word. Usually, with focus the memory will come back after aittle and this of course means that the brain and memory have to work harder. Anything that is hard and a struggle will help us in our fight against dementia David Barnato. South Africa’
