DEMENTIA AND COMMON SENSE

WE dementia people often suddeny realise that our memory has got a litltle worse. Despite the right diet, exercise of body and mind and prayer and meditation our memory may still slip a little as the months and years go on. It is often difficult to know that you have moved from one level to another. The same applies to deteriorating cognitive abilities. This week I realised that my 'common sense' is slipping a bit. For some weeks the lock on our security gate was malfunctioning. Sometimes the key would turn and sometimes it wouldn't. Eventually I called in a locksmith and he installed a new lock. Still the problem persisted, but no one else had any problems. Eventually Julian came to watch what I did. She was reluctant to explain it, but the problem was that in my confusion I was turning the key the wrong way. It sounds ridiculous I'm sure. How could my cogntive abilities be deteriorating to such a degree. The curious thing is that in other ways I operate perfectly normally, like for example writing blogs or my latest book. Dementia is a very strange and stealthy enemy that seeks out the crooks and crannies of weakness in your brain and memory. Although I was temporarily put back by this deterioration, I am pleased to say that my usual gratitude for what I still have re-surfaced. One must live each day fully and just be happy for the joy of every day.
