REVERSIBLE DEMENTIA

Joke of the day. Patient. "Doctor I have a serious problem, I can never remember what I just said." Doctor. "There's not much that I can do about that." Patient. "What was that doctor?" Memory loss, dementia and alzheimers disease are expanding at an alarming rate. A huge percentage of the population will be suffering from these disorders in a few years and although medical science has progressed dramatically there is not very much that can be done to stop these illnesses from progressing. However,in the case of dementia a sufferer must be thoroughly examined as there are one or two causes of dementia that can be stopped. In the case of a thyroid condition it can actually be reversed. Also, vitamin deficiency can be a cause of dementia and vitamin B12 in particular can apparently even reverse dementia in certain cases. Also, much damage to the brain can be caused by excessive alcohol consumption. This brain damage cannot be reverses, but more damage may be avoided if the patient is able to stop all alcoholic consumption. So there is some hope for some people, but like good health in general memory loss, dementia and alzheimers can often be avoided by good lifestyles from a young age. As the heart is affected by what you do and don't eat, also the brain and memory are also influenced by the same things. They say that 50% of the population will have alzheimers by age 85, so statistically it's a bit like roulette, but you can improve the odds by not smoking, exercising, healthy living and using the brain and memory. In my own case I am coping well with the memory problem by writing everything down, but I notice increasing difficulties dealing with the internet and banking etc. However, I am blessed with a caring family, a library of books that I never tire of reading and the book that I am writing, so my brain is always active. I also relax by listening to music and watching a soapie or two in the evening. Weather still good here, but getting cooler in the mornings. All pets well and happy. Keep taking the tablets!
