A doctor began a lecture about memory loss. "There are three signs of memory loss." He then scratched his head. "I can't remember the other four." This joke needs thinking about and could even be a test of your cognitive abilities! The alzheimers test which we are going to talk about today will indicate if you have the symptoms of alzheimers or not. Consult your own doctor immediately if the results show that you are a sufferer.. The test was created by Bob DeMarco of Ohio State University and to take the test you must first register on line, or get your carer to do so. This is very, very easy. Go to The Alzheimers Reading Room at www.allzheimersreading roomalzheimerstest. It is very simple to download and the test is straightforward, but inability to do some of the tests is highly likely if you do have alzheimers. On the other hand you may not be able to do them all, but that will not necessarily indicate that you do have alzheimers.The Reading Room will let you know, although you will probably reach your own conclusions anyway. One of The Alzheimers Reading room articles claims that dementia is the symptom of alzheimers.Thus, according to Bob DeMarco, if you have dementia, you will have alzheimers. However, there are several types and you must not despair. There is not yet a cure for alzheimers, but medical treatment can slow it down and make it more bearable. My own dementia is no worse today, but I sometimes struggle to remember why I went into a certain room or why I am driving somewhere. At present when I focus the memory does come back, so life is quite tolerable. Indeed I count my blessings every day. As I mentioned in a previous blog I do believe that prayer and meditation help considerably. Tomorrow Julian and I are going to a one day seminar on alzheimers and caring for alzheimers patients.
