DEMENTIA IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD

Alzheimers is like a clock that loses a second a day, you don't recognize it until you start to lose minutes. Dementia is the symptom of alzheimers  or perhaps some other serious illness. However dementia can advance for several years before alzheimers becomes apparent. In fact many dementia patients live up to twenty years.
The early stages of memory loss and dementia are difficult to accept. It's very frustrating when you can't remember that word or you forget the shopping or where you've parked your car. Personally when I can't remember a word the frustration almost hurts! However, I've found that if one goes through the alphabet looking for the word by its first letter many words do come back quite quickly. The other difficulties like forgetting shopping items are irritating, but rarely that important and keeping a diary helps tremendously.
Dementia can also bring cognitive difficulties such as dealing with banking or the internet, but more serious is that sometimes difficulties in balance may be experienced. However, this just means greater care and in my own case this is the only thing that I have to be particularly watchful of. Because of my greater attention to health of body mind and spirit my own dementia has not advanced for some considerable time. Positive thinking undoubtedly also plays its part.
When first becoming aware of dementia it is natural to be depressed and this must be addressed. A supportive spouse or friend can help considerably in this area, as it is essential to be able to control depression. Once this is mastered one can look forward to a happy life if you take the right steps and are aware of the blessings in your life.

Here in Paarl,  it is another beautiful day. Julian and I have just returned from our walk. After breakfast I will continue working on my book and she will start work on her latest wedding dress creation.
Dogs, birds and squirrels are well. Spiders also still active!
Keep taking the tablets.
