DEMENTIA AND THE QUIRKS OF MEMORY

We dementia people experience things in strange ways. Our memory loss does not proceed at the same pace each day. Nor do we forget to a set pattern. It's our caregivers who often know us better than ourselves. What blessed people caregivers are. What a task to undertake, with all the difficult challenges and dark shadows that may lay ahead. Julian agrees that my decline is very, very slow. This seems to be particularly the case since introducing coconut oil into my diet. What Julian has noticed is not so much that I forget for example things to do.Rarther, I often forget that I have done them. It's not too catastrophic, although I did pay the rates bill twice last month, which meant that things were a bit tight in the last week. Still, as always we are both gratful to God for our many blessings. For the last few weeks we have been attending on one evening each week a course called 'Alpha'. This is a Christian teachin course and we have both enjoyed it immensely. Although we go to different churches, our fundamental views are pretty much the same. Next week will be very busy because on Thursday we are going to Somerset West for a one day dementia and Alzheimer's conference. As I am now a dementia mentor any new knowledge will be gratfully received. At the weekend we are going with other Alpha members for a two day retreat. We are looking forward to it temendously. Julian is very busy still with dressmaking and my book of poetry is coming on fast. At least one new poem every day. Weather a little cooler today and cloudy, but we have ha such lovely days that we musn't complain. David Barnato. Paarl. South Africa
