ALZHEIMER'S -------------------------WHY THE NUMBERS ARE SOARING
There are now globally over 70 million Alzheimer's victims and the numbers are soaring.
Although life style and heredity are the two key factors in becoming an Alzheimer's sufferer, the main reason that the numbers are about to soar even further is because people are living longer almost everywhere in the world.
Many people now live beyond the age of 75 and at that age there is a 50% chance of dementia, which heralds something worse. In 80% of cases it will be Alzheimer's.
In the past it was assumed that deteriorating memory was an automatic result of age,but this is not necessarily the case. Some people retain all of their long term memory and much of their short term faculties. However, the majority of the population do experience memory difficulties and if you live long enough, the chance of this becoming severe are high.
Although a good life style does lessen the risk of dementia there is no guarantee that the problem isn't lurking in your ancestry and will in due course manifest itself. However, evidence suggests that the healthy life style may well delay the onset of dementia and Alzheimer's. In addition, it may well may save one's heart, so the effort is certainly worth while.
