MEMORY.----------A NATURAL FOOD THAT WILL HELP RETAIN IT.

Everyone forgets things. Even young children whose memories are very good and remember most things will conveniently forget to brush their teeth or pick up their clothes. As one gets older one forgets other things and as you move into middle age it will be noticeable. In some this will eventually become dementia which is the symptom of something worse and in many cases will become Alzheimer's. The statistics are rather scary.By age 65 there is a 50% chance that you will have Alzheimer's.
The good news is that you can help to reduce the risk by lifestyle choices and the right foods. This is even so when you have a family history of Alzheimer's, you will improve your chances by making the right choices when young.
The first step is to keep physically fit and control weight. The second is to eat healthily and of course abstain from smoking or drug use and be modest with alcohol consumption. Good sleep is also important and research shows that people who live beyond one hundred sleep for at least seven hours. Another feature of longevity seems to be leading a busy life with bold objectives and learning how to reduce stress. Keeping the brain active by reading and pursuing challenging mental activities such as crosswords or playing chess. is another factor that helps to reach longevity and also retain the memory.
It is interesting that the risks to the brain are very similar to the risks to the heart and a poor lifestyle will endanger both.Spiritual health is also relevant to both heart and mind and a grateful and forgiving attitude is noticeable amongst many healthy older people.
The right foods are of course very important and a Mediterranean style diet is best for heart and brain. Apart from plenty of vegetables and fruit, especially berries there is on additional food that is now working for thousands of people world wide and in most cases almost halting the deterioration of dementia. The magic food is coconut oil, which in combination with healthy lifestyle has almost halted my own dementia, which I have had for almost twenty years.
It is quite extraordinary how medical science has still not produced a cure for dementia and yet a solution to at least slow down dementia and Alzheimer's lays with nature herself already.
I am tempted to say this week that my memory has improved slightly, but Julian thinks that it is stable and of course it is true that damage to the brain cannot be reversed. However, despite being in stage two of dementia I am a living example of how with the right choices one can live a very full and contented life.
Here in Paarl we are all well, except for Boysie the Jack Russell who is off his food. This is a bit worrying as he and his sister Polly are now thirteen and so of course one worries. Bobby the parrot is giving increasing entertainment. It is curious how he has an almost human liking for ladies and despite me being the one who feeds him titbits of apple during the day, it is the ladies of the household or even on television who create the most chatter and whistling. He is a real 'Ladies Man.'!
